The Jinny Notebook

Jinny Notebook | bring a piece of Jinny with you

Inspired by the distinctive vertical form of the streetlight cases that define the exhibition space at Jinny Street Gallery, the Jinny Notebook is a tactile record of Jingumae 2-chome and the memories held within its streets.

The cover features a letterpress-printed map of Jingumae 2-chome, with a circular window at the top revealing a glimpse of the notebook’s first page.

That first page carries an original texture collected directly from the neighborhood. Circular pieces of paper clay were pressed against the surfaces of buildings, streets, trees, and other details found throughout Jingumae 2-chome. These impressions were then transformed into stamps and individually applied to each notebook by hand.

Before it reaches an artist or creator, the notebook already contains a physical fragment of the neighborhood. The blank pages that follow are left open for you to add your own discoveries, observations, words, sketches, and ideas.

Created for the artists participating in Notes From Jinny, the Jinny Notebook is also a work of the exhibition itself—beginning with the textures of the city and continuing through the unique perspective of whoever holds it.

A perfect keepsake for anyone who wants to take a little piece of Jinny with them.
