A gesture, held in clay.
Foam #9 is a ceramic work in European terracotta, engobe and glaze. A low green form brings together a dark, coarse surface and glossy red and yellow additions. These contrasting textures give the work a vivid physical presence, with each small shift in shape holding the trace of a gesture.
For Memory Foam, Onree follows the movement of his hands and the response of the clay. Pressing, pinching and bending leave their traces; firing makes those passing gestures permanent. The irregular form carries the energy of its making into the finished work.
Part of Memory Foam at Jinny Street Gallery, Jingumae 2-chome, Tokyo, 1–26 October 2026.
